While higher education requires independent decision-making and initiative, this does not mean that you work in isolation. When we study successful students of all ability levels, we find that they are especially skilled at identifying and utilizing all the resources available to them. In fact, when we meet with students who have performed well below their abilities, the most common reason for not seeking assistance is, “I wanted to do it myself.”
To understand the importance of this point, think about all the high achievers who have won victories and awards. Upon accepting the recognition for their achievements, they nearly always have a lengthy list of people with whom to share the credit. Most tell us their list of people and organizations to thank is so long that they don’t have time to list them all. Really. Have you seen an award winner say from the podium, “I have no one to thank because I did this entirely on my own.”
At University College we bring together people and resources to assist you at each stage of your undergraduate journey. Along this journey of academic and personal growth, you will find people committed to supporting your success. Your responsibility is to make use of the resources within your reach. Come visit with us and see how we can help you reach or even exceed your goals.
